Our Porsche Cayman GT4, put into circulation on May 9, 2016, was delivered new in Germany to its first owner, a French man living in Sweden. The latter returned to France in 2023 and had his GT4 taken over by the Porsche Saint Etienne Center, which sold it to its second owner. The car therefore had only two owners.
In Metallic Rhodium Silver, our Cayman GT4 is in perfect condition. Both the body and the paint are free of defects. Inside, we find beautiful personalized tubs. Perfectly consistent with the general configuration, they give this GT4 a little retro touch. The original black Race Tex seats have of course been retained and will be supplied with the car. It goes without saying that all the interior trim is in excellent condition.
With only 39,700 kilometers, our Cayman GT4 works as it should for a car with so few kilometers. The 3.8-liter Flat 6 borrowed from the 911 (Type 991) Carrera S is in perfect health, and the 385 horsepower are all there. The 6-speed manual gearbox offers additional driving pleasure and accentuates the very sporty character of this version.
Maintained by the Porsche network and by brand specialists in Sweden, this copy has its notebooks and manuals. The numerous invoices allow the complete history to be traced. The last interview was carried out in January 2023. New rear tires will be installed prior to delivery.
Here is the list of the options and equipment available to this copy:
Launched in February 2015 at the New York Auto Show, the Porsche Cayman GT4 (type 981) marks a significant step in the evolution of the range by injecting a decidedly sporty dimension in line with the 911 GT3.
Since the introduction of the Cayman in 2005, the range has positioned itself as an alternative to the legendary 911s, differing from them by a mid-engine architecture. But it was only with the release of the GT4 version in 2015 that the Cayman clearly affirmed its sporty identity, with specifications worthy of a track car while maintaining good road use capabilities.
The heart of the GT4 is the famous 3.8-liter flat six-cylinder engine borrowed from the 911 Carrera S (Type 991). Delivering 385 horsepower at 7,400 rpm and a torque of 420 Nm between 4,750 and 6,000 rpm, coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox, the GT4 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. The top speed is 295 km/h.
The GT4 chassis has been optimized in order to obtain the dynamic behavior and driving precision expected for use on the track. It thus benefits from elements borrowed from the 911 GT3, in particular the front suspension and brakes. Ground clearance reduced by 30 mm compared to the standard Cayman, and the center of gravity is lowered by the same amount.
The specific fixed rear wing, the diffuser and the optimized air intakes play an essential role in terms of improving aerodynamic support.
All of this work made it possible to achieve the desired objective, namely a car with a particularly sporty temperament and adapted to proven mixed road/track use.
At the time, Porsche's choice to equip the GT4 with a manual gearbox rather than the PDK available across the entire range generated some questions. The answer was that the communication between man and machine is more intense and satisfactory with a manual gearbox.
The Porsche Cayman GT4 981 is an important milestone in the history of the Cayman range as well as in the history of Porsche. Indeed, at a reasonable price, it offers the philosophy of the ultimate versions marketed by the manufacturer. Thanks to its central engine, it embodies a successful convergence between the world of the road and that of the track by offering a technical synthesis that is complementary as well as differentiating to the traditional 911.
