Our BMW Z1, put into circulation on March 22, 1990, is a rare and perfectly preserved example, totalling only 56,000 km on the clock. This Z1 has only two owners with a purchase in March 2010 by its current owner.
This Z1 is presented in a Red color, contrasted by a black interior in excellent condition. The body is flawless, as is the interior and the on-board instrumentation that works perfectly.
Under the hood, this Z1 is powered by a 170-horsepower 2.5L engine combined with a manual gearbox. Its operation is flawless. The maintenance of this Z1 was carried out with care by BMW and specialists in vintage vehicles. It has benefited from numerous preventive interventions, including the replacement of the exhaust with a stainless steel model, the distribution, as well as the front and rear shock absorbers with their suspension struts. The last complete revision dates from November 22, 2024. The consumables are in excellent condition, and no costs are to be expected.
The BMW Z1, produced between 1989 and 1991, is the first model in BMW's Z Series, a line of two-seat roadsters. Limited to 8,000 units, the Z1 is characterized by its innovative design and unique features, such as removable plastic body panels and doors that slide vertically into the sills. These, combined with raised thresholds, allow the car to be driven with the doors open, although this may be illegal in some countries.
Under the hood, there is a 2.5-liter inline six-cylinder engine from the BMW E30 325i, developing 168 horsepower, combined with a five-speed manual gearbox. It is also one of the first BMW models to incorporate multi-link rear suspension, nicknamed “Z Axle”, which influenced later vehicles like the 3 Series E36.
Developed by BMW Technik GmbH under the direction of Ulrich Bez, then Klaus Faust, the Z1 was revealed in 1987 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Despite strong initial demand, production stopped in 1991, after a drop in interest due to early speculations. With its aerodynamic body and innovations, the Z1 laid the foundations for the Z lineage, continued by the Z3, Z4 and Z8.
