The Porsche Boxster 981 GTS was born in a long line of sports cars from the famous German brand Porsche. To trace its origins, it is essential to go back to the first generation of Boxster, the 986, launched in 1996. It marked Porsche's entry into the mid-range sports convertible segment, positioned below the 911, while offering a dynamic driving experience.
In 2012, Porsche introduced the third generation of the Boxster, called 981. This model was distinguished by its more refined design, advanced technology, and increased performance. It was part of the continuity of the Boxster's evolution while marking a breakthrough in terms of engineering and aesthetics.
In 2014, the GTS variant of the Boxster 981 was presented to the world. This name, “GTS” (for Gran Turismo Sport), is of historical importance for Porsche. Used for the first time on the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS in 1963, it refers to models that offer optimized performance, while being adapted to daily use.
Under the hood of the Boxster 981 GTS, there was a 3.4-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine, producing 330 hp (243 kW) and 370 Nm of torque. This engine block was paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission, although buyers could opt for Porsche's seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission.
The Boxster 981 GTS accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds with the manual transmission, and in 4.7 seconds with the PDK gearbox, reaching a maximum speed of 281 km/h.
From a technical point of view, the Boxster 981 GTS also distinguished itself by its sporty chassis settings, its suspension lowered by 20 mm, and the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system that offered adaptable driving dynamics.
Externally, the GTS was recognizable by its specific features such as black Bi-Xenon headlights, larger front air intakes, and a distinctive “GTS” badge on the doors. Inside, the driver and passenger were welcomed by Alcantara sports seats, with GTS logos embroidered on the headrests.
The Porsche Boxster 981 GTS is a remarkable evolution of the Boxster line, combining historical heritage and technological advances. It embodies the perfect balance between performance and comfort, while maintaining the essence of a genuine Porsche sports car.
