The Porsche 981, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012, is the third generation of the Boxster and Cayman. It adopts a new design language inspired by the 911 (991) and 918, with significant improvements to the chassis: rigidity increased by 40%, wider tracks and a longer wheelbase. The 981 is the first Boxster to use electronically assisted steering and an electric parking brake.
The standard Boxster is equipped with a 2.7-liter flat-6 engine developing 260 horsepower, while the S version has a 3.4-liter 310-horsepower engine. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, with a 7-speed PDK option. Technologies such as Porsche Torque Vectoring and the Sport Chrono package improve performance and efficiency.
In 2014, the range expanded with the Boxster GTS, offering 15 additional horsepower thanks to the 3.4-liter engine.
The most extreme model, the Boxster Spyder, was introduced in 2015. Lightened to 1,315 kg, it has a 3.8-liter, 375-horsepower flat-6 engine. It's only available with a 6-speed manual transmission and features lightweight features like aluminum doors and a manual canvas roof. Spyder production was limited to 2,486 units.
