Our Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet was delivered new and put into circulation during 1992 in Germany. It has known 5 owners, including its current owner, French, since 2023.
This copy is in excellent general condition. In an Ametysth Metallic shade, combined with a Magenta leather interior, 17-inch Cup wheels and a Magenta canvas top, it has no flaws and is distinguished by an irreproachable aesthetic.
Its mechanical functioning reflects its aesthetic condition. The 3.6L Flat 6 developing 250 horsepower, combined with the 5-speed manual gearbox works perfectly. The history of the various works can be consulted thanks to the presence of numerous invoices. The consumables are in good condition. It should be noted the presence of a Porsche Classic car radio offering CarPlay functionalities and more.
Here are the options and equipment available to this copy:
In the late 70s, the Porsche 911 was questioned by Porsche managers. In particular, we prefer the PMA (Porsche with Front Engine) such as the 924 or the 928, with a structure that is more likely to appeal in the future. The Carrera 3.2 will be one of the models that will save the 911, thus relaunching its number of sales and its interest in the eyes of managers. The 964 generation, unveiled in 1988, therefore plays a major role in the future of the 911. When it was presented in September at the Paris Motor Show, the 964 presented an almost unchanged line except for the front and rear bumpers. The 16-inch Speedline wheels replace the legendary Fuchs, but no additional changes are observable.
However, 87% of the 964 is new. All the mechanical parts are modified, starting with Flat 6. For the Carrera 4 version, the engine capacity is increased to 3.6 L and its power to 250 horsepower. The gearbox evolves and carries the G64 code, while the running gear is completely revised, electronics are required and the transmission is now permanently integral. All the changes made radically change the way 911 behaves, making it a more relaxed and more accessible version to drive. However, the mythical behavior is never far away, exactly a pedal crash away.
The Cabriolet version of the 964 Carrera 4 was released a few years later, in 1990, accompanying the Targa version. It has a fabric top with a plastic rear window, which is fully automatic. The production of the Porsche 964 was stopped in 1994, and allowed the 911 to survive a difficult period.
