More reliable and much better protected against corrosion than its predecessor, the 2.7, the 911 SC, launched in 1977, became particularly interesting from 1980, when power jumped forward with 204 hp against 180 hp, then 188 hp, previously. Lighter than its replacement, the Carrera 3.2, the SC is also more lively in the laps thanks to a more raging engine. It is also much cheaper (and just as powerful) than a Carrera 2.7 or a Carrera 3.0 from the same era.
This Porsche 911 SC was put into circulation on 15 March 1983. Originally from Luxembourg, this car benefits from rare and coveted options such as the self-locking differential, Rubis Red metallic paint (offered only 1 year on SC) and the Pasha interior (which will no longer be offered at the end of 1983).
The car we are offering for sale was purchased by its current owner in May 2018. It drives regularly, and is in its used condition: very healthy, but not perfect. The bottom of the trunk, the structure and the engine bay are free of corrosion. Some work will make it shine again: aligning and painting the bumpers, removing a rust spot on the windshield bay. No perforating or structural rust is present. The cabin, made of a very rare beige Pasha velvet, has many interesting options such as cassette storage and additional heating. Note that the left rear seat backrest flange needs to be replaced, and a passenger seat seam needs to be redone. The odometer showing 100,500 kilometers for 285,000 real and verifiable kilometers, in particular thanks to technical inspection records.
In terms of mechanics, this Porsche 911 SC is in very good working condition. A repair of the engine, the running gear, the clutch and the ignition, carried out in 2012, allowing the mechanics to take full turns and breathe health. Its flat 6 3.0l engine developing 204 horsepower has 3.2L engine hydraulic chain tensioners which contribute to improving its operation and reliability. No abnormal noise should be noted.
Numerous invoices are available. A replacement of the candles, a new battery, a drain and a replacement of the filter were carried out in August 2023. Pirelli tires were installed in 2020. These tires have traveled 10,000 km and the clutch has been changed 20,000 km ago. The costs to be expected are as follows: adjustment of the gearbox — replacement of the brake fluid — replacement of the silencer in the medium term — renovation of the paint for condition contest — renovation of the passenger seat.
Here are the options and equipment available to this Porsche 911 SC:
· Right rearview mirror
· Front fog lights
· AR windshield wiper
· Ruby red metallic paint
· Pascha beige velvet
· Radio pre-equipment with antenna and 2 HP (but a radio was installed later)
· Self-locking
· Rear spoiler + front lip
· Additional heating system
The 1983 Porsche 911 SC represents a remarkable milestone in the history of luxury sports cars. This special variant of the Porsche 911 was introduced in the 1980s, combining the elegance and performance characteristics of the Porsche brand with design elements and technical improvements inspired by the 911 Turbo.
On the technical side, the Porsche 911 SC is equipped with the 3.0 liter 6-cylinder flat boxer engine. This engine was capable of producing 204 horsepower, offering robust and reliable performance. The transmission was a 5-speed manual transmission, designed to provide an engaging and responsive driving experience. One of the most distinctive aspects of this 911 SC is its exterior design, which borrows in particular the Turbo's “whale tail” rear spoiler and wider Fuchs wheels. These changes were not only aesthetic; they also improved the vehicle's stability and aerodynamic performance.
Inside, the 911 SC offered a high level of finish and comfort, in line with Porsche standards. The sports seats, high-quality interior trim, and comprehensive instrumentation reflected the luxury and performance that customers expected from Porsche.
Historically, the 911 SC is part of the tradition of Porsche special models, which have often served as a testing ground for new technologies and design concepts. Although not as powerful as the 911 Turbo of the same era, it offered a more accessible alternative, while sharing several design and performance characteristics with this iconic model. In terms of production, the 911 SC was a limited edition, which contributed to its exclusivity. The models produced in 1983 are now considered collectors by classic car enthusiasts and collectors.
In summary, the 1983 Porsche 911 SC is a key model in the evolution of the Porsche brand, offering a unique balance between design, performance, and luxury. It represents an important chapter in the history of the 911, a model line that continues to evolve and inspire car enthusiasts around the world.
