The Porsche 718 Spyder is in line with the brand's lightweight sports models. Launched with the 982 generation, it adopted the “718” designation in tribute to the Porsche that won the Targa Florio in 1959 and 1960. This choice of name echoes a philosophy: to favor agility over raw power, a principle that is reflected in the abandonment of the naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine in favor of a turbocharged four-cylinder engine when it was introduced in 2016.
The 718 range evolved with the arrival, in 2020, of the GTS 4.0 model, equipped with a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine developing 400 horsepower. This engine is derived from that of the 718 Cayman GT4 and the Spyder, offering an alternative to the previous turbo blocks. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, with an optional PDK dual-clutch transmission.
The chassis benefits from a mechanical limited-slip differential and a sport suspension lowered by 20 mm with adaptive dampers. The design remains similar to the previous model, with some aesthetic changes, including a black strip connecting the rear lights. The 718 Spyder perpetuates the spirit of Porsche roadsters, combining lightness and dynamic efficiency.
