Our Peugeot 205 CTI was delivered new in France and put into circulation on April 6, 1988. It has known 4 owners since that day, including its current owner since September 2018.
This copy is presented in a competition condition, unique in France. In a Scarlet Red (EKG) color, combined with gray Speedline rims, red and black leather and fabric seats, red carpet, Alcantara headliner and alpaca soft top, this Peugeot 205 CTI is flawless. This copy stands out for its rigorously perfect condition and all the new elements installed.
On the mechanical level, this copy works perfectly. It is equipped with numerous components belonging to the 205 GTI. This is the case for the engine, which is therefore the 1.9L engine with 130 horsepower (and which has only covered 7,000 km), but also for the gearbox, front and rear axles. All engine parts are new. Interviews are carried out at specialist garages. Numerous invoices are available. The last overhaul was carried out about 2,000 kilometers ago. A revision will be made for sale.

In 1976, the PSA group was created to allow the rescue of Citroën, which was then in a bad position. Peugeot's determination was strong, with the acquisition of Chrysler Europe subsidiaries in 1978. The integration of the Simca, Rootes and Barreiros brands is part of Peugeot's plan to become the GM in Europe. Unfortunately, structural and cyclical problems, as well as the 1979 oil shock, are undermining the automotive sector, which was already weakened in 1973. The brands acquired have no plans and the Peugeot range is aging. In 1981, the group was at its lowest with losses of more than 2 billion francs. The Peugeot 104 is the only model still in place, but well short of the Renault R5. The replacement of the 104 was then completed, and the M24 project was put into action. Larger car, 5- and 3-door versions and weighing less than 800 kg, the newcomer plays big. It will not be called 105 as logic would have liked, but will belong to the 200 series, known for being that of innovative models. Jean Boillot, then managing director, presented the 205 on January 20, 1983 to dealerships in Monaco.
The car is unanimous. The 5-door version, presented in 7 different versions, 5 finishes and three engines, is conquering the market with disconcerting ease. A diesel version was quickly presented in 1983, building on the success of the model. In recent years, Peugeot has tended to tame motorsport, with a timid foray thanks to the 104 ZS. The lion brand repeated on its 205, and unveiled the 205 GTI on February 16, 1984. Equipped with the 1580cc XU range engine for 105 horsepower and a maximum speed of 190 km/h, the GTI represented no less than 12% of sales in 1985. The 14-inch alloy wheels, its long-range headlights, the fender flares, the new counters, its specific upholstery and its red carpets seduce customers. The 205 GTI will further accentuate the success of the 205, which will be the best seller in France in 1984, 1985 and 1990.
A few limited versions will be released, such as the 205 Lacoste or the XE, XL, XR and XT finishes. But Peugeot continued to bet on its starlet and developed a new model in its own right, a cabriolet designed by Pininfarina in 1986. Based on the 3-door version, Peugeot unveils the CT convertible with 80 hp and the CTI with 115 hp. Equipped with a roll cage improving torsional stiffness, a GTI body kit, excellent construction and good road behavior despite the gain of 40 kg, the 205 CTI was a great success, especially among young people. Of course, we must not forget the major role played by the rally version of the 205, the 205 T16, which won three victories as soon as it entered the rally thanks to its 365-horsepower engine. The rest is history.
