Our Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, with 98,500 KM on the odometer, was put into circulation on June 1, 1987 in France. Its current owner purchased it in 2022.
This sporty icon comes in a White hue combined with a Black and Red interior in excellent condition for its age. There is a small burn on the right rear seat, a few snags on the rims and a slight scratch at the bottom of the front bumper. The body was completely painted in 2017, giving it an irreproachable shine.
Under the hood, this RS Cosworth hides a 204-horsepower 2.0 Turbo engine combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The exhaust line has been replaced by a group N type, and the air filter and expansion tank have been changed. The clutch and distribution kit were replaced in 2022. Fully monitored by an independent specialist garage, the last revision was carried out in 2022, and a new maintenance will be carried out before the sale. The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, produced between 1986 and 1992 by Ford Europe, was born from an ambitious project by Ford Motorsport to dominate the Group A championship in Europe. Stuart Turner, then director of Ford Motorsport, convinced Walter Hayes, vice president of public relations, to support this project. Cosworth, already famous for its racing engines, then developed the YBB engine, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine derived from the Pinto block, producing 204 hp in road version and up to 300 hp in competition.
The Sierra's design, which has been criticized since its launch in 1982, has been redesigned with aggressive aerodynamic changes, including a large rear wing deemed essential for stability at high speeds. The chassis benefits from numerous improvements inspired by racing successes, including the experiences of Andy Rouse in the British Championship and Jack Roush in the United States. The Borg-Warner T5 gearbox, borrowed from the Mustang, is modified to handle high revs.
Presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1985, the Sierra RS Cosworth enjoyed limited success but cultivated a formidable reputation on the circuit and road. The RS500 model, produced in 500 copies, reinforces its legend with even more radical performances. With its 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and its 240 km/h top speed, it remains an icon of the sports cars of the 1980s.
