Our Bentley Mark VI Sports Saloon was delivered new in France and put into circulation on September 29, 1949. It has 4 owners, including its current owner since 2017. Its registration is currently Swiss.
This copy is in a very good general condition, in particular thanks to a complete renovation carried out in the 1980s. In a metallic Champagne hue, combined with full chrome upholstery, a long-range fire, a brown leather interior with slight patina, woodwork, and burgundy carpeting, this Bentley Mark VI Sports Saloon is flawless.
Its mechanical functioning is just as good. Powered by the 4.3L 6-cylinder engine offering power defined as “sufficient”, combined with a 4-speed manual gearbox, this Bentley easily offers flexibility and power of yesteryear. She has numerous invoices and regular maintenance, as well as a FIVA identity card.
Here are the options and equipment that this Bentley Mark VI Sports Saloon has:
The Bentley Mark VI Sports Saloon was Bentley's first post-war luxury car. Announced in May 1946 and produced from 1946 to 1952, it was also Rolls-Royce's first car with an all-steel body and the first complete car assembled and finished in their factory. These very expensive cars were a real success, their long-term weakness being the inferior steels imposed by post-war government controls, and the frames continued to be supplied to independent body builders.
This factory-finished Bentley car was called the Bentley Mark VI standard steel sports saloon. This shorter-wheelbase chassis and engine was a variant of the 1946 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith and, with the same standard steel body and a larger trunk, became the 1949 Silver Dawn.
The Mark VI 4 1⁄4 liter used a 4.3 L (4,257 cc/259 cu in) F-head straight-6 engine. The manufacturer refused to disclose a power value for the car (other than the fiscal power of 29.4 hp under the old RAC formula), but a test drive by Autocar magazine reproduced in 1950 reported that the higher speed offered “flexibility up to 6 mph (10 km/h)” and the ability to “climb a hill with a maximum slope of 1 out of 9, complicated by turns.” This statement confirmed the adjective “sufficient” put forward by the brand.
