This engine is an improved version of the one found in the Boxster S, offering an increase of 15 horsepower and 10 Nm of torque. This model is available with two transmission options: a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch automated gearbox. The Boxster GTS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds with the manual transmission, and that time increases to 4.6 seconds with the PDK. The maximum speed is 281 km/h with the manual transmission and 279 km/h with the PDK.

Aesthetically, the Boxster 981 GTS is distinguished by several specific features such as redesigned front and rear bumpers, larger air intakes, and an improved interior with extensive customization options. As standard, it is equipped with 20-inch wheels, a sports exhaust system, and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), lowering the car by 10 mm. The GTS model also benefits from the inclusion of the Sport Chrono Package, improving dynamic performance through an additional driving mode, faster throttle response, and dynamic engine mount tuning. Inside, the Alcantara sports seats and the sports steering wheel with paddle shifters reflect the vehicle's performance orientation.

From a technological point of view, the Boxster GTS is equipped with systems such as Porsche Communication Management (PCM), a touchscreen for the navigation and entertainment system, and various driving aids. Production of the 981 series ended in 2016, making the Boxster 981 GTS one of the last models of this generation before the introduction of the 718 Boxster, which introduced turbocharged four-cylinder engines, marking a significant change in Porsche's powertrain strategy for this range of vehicles.
