Description and Key Highlights of this Example

Based on the 993 Turbo, the 996 Turbo, despite the change in the cooling system, which was highly criticized by Porsche purists, offers the best of the German brand's technicality and engineering. Increased performance, unparalleled driving sensations and revised design, the new generation, between GT and super-sporty, is raving the clock.

An example from the 2001 model year, this 996 Turbo is in remarkable condition. Of French origin, it is sold new to its first owner and will pass into the hands of 5 owners in total. Given its current condition, this copy has undoubtedly passed into the hands of enthusiasts who have managed to maintain its original condition and use it with respect.

Maintained exclusively at Porsche until 2011, it will then be taken care of by renowned brand specialists, before returning to the workshops in the Porsche Classic Center. Work on its mechanics will then be initiated and it will benefit from more than €20,000 in costs from 2021 to 2023 in order to maintain it as best as possible. Engine, gearbox and axle changes are carried out as well as a replacement of the clutch in particular.

With 123,500 km on the clock, this example is impressive in its condition. The body, in Arctic Gray color, has no defects and seems like new. The paint offers brilliance and depth and does not require retouching. The cabin is also in excellent condition. Covered in black leather, the seats, the dashboard, the steering wheel and the various elements are very well preserved, the car's instrumentation is also in good working condition.

The mechanics of this 996 Turbo are in perfect health and the 3.6-liter flat 6 combined with two turbochargers, developing 420hp, works wonderfully. The brutal power, as well as the flexibility of driving at low speeds, are intact. Although a bit quieter than on previous generations, the engine offers beautiful vocals, especially at high speeds.

With a last maintenance carried out in June 2023, this copy is ready to go as soon as it is purchased. The optional PCM (Porsche Communication Management) has been replaced by a new Porsche multimedia module with current connectivity. A Porsche “996 Turbo” cover is provided.

Model History and Evolution

Born at the heart of Porsche's rich history, the 996 Turbo represents a key step in the long line of Porsche 911s. It made its debut at the end of the 1990s, a period marked by major technological developments in the automotive world.

The 996 Turbo was unveiled to the general public in 2000. However, its genesis dates back well before that date. It succeeds the 993 Turbo, which was the last 911 with an air-cooled engine. The switch to water cooling in the 996 generation was a major change for Porsche, both in terms of engineering and in terms of acceptance by purists.

Under the hood, the 996 Turbo is powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six engine with two turbochargers, producing 420 hp, which is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission or, as an option, to a five-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission. With this engine, the 996 Turbo is capable of reaching a top speed of nearly 300 km/h, and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via Porsche's all-wheel drive system, ensuring better grip and optimal handling. On a technical level, this generation also introduced the VarioCam Plus system, an innovation in variable distribution management, making it possible to optimize power, torque and fuel consumption.

Externally, the 996 Turbo is distinguished by its wider front air intakes, stronger wings and fixed rear spoiler, characteristic elements that differentiate it from its atmospheric counterparts. These elements are not only aesthetic, but also have an essential aerodynamic function, ensuring adequate cooling and appropriate downward pressure at high speeds.

The Porsche 996 Turbo occupies a significant place in the history of the German brand. It symbolizes a period of transition, where tradition and innovation coexist. With its technical advances, it has been able to meet the growing demands of the market while maintaining the very essence of what it means to be a Porsche 911.

Its heritage lives on today, as it serves as a reference for future generations of Turbo models, merging performance, technology and design.
