-Very rare US model (with marker light suppression)
-Full catering
-Engine pleasure and sound
-Very good general condition
Produced from 1967, the MG C is the replacement of the very popular MG B. With the same body, the MG C has a domed hood that will be its distinctive sign, making it possible to house the 6-cylinder in-line engine much larger than that of the MG B. The mechanical elements are then adjusted to correspond to the 145 horsepower delivered, offering more power, but more weight.
This MG C Cabriolet was put into circulation on the 1ErMay 1969 in the United States. The history of its previous owners during its stay in the United States is not known. On the other hand, it is known that this MG C was imported into France in 2013 following the purchase by a first French owner, and was then purchased in 2017 by its current owner. It is in a very good general condition, thanks in particular to a complete restoration carried out in 2013. Its body, in a blue color, is in very good condition. The paint offers shine and depth and has only a few slight defects, especially above the left front wheel. No noticeable scratches or snags are to be reported. The blue condom has no snags. The US marker lights were removed during the restoration.
In the cabin, this MG C has blue leather seats in good condition with few signs of use. They are accompanied by a wooden steering wheel and gear lever in very good condition, as well as a black dashboard with no notable flaws. The on-board instrumentation is working normally and there are no expenses in the cabin. In terms of mechanics, this example has a 145-horsepower 6-cylinder engine in good working condition. Start-ups are smooth and there is no noise during driving. The gearbox operates normally and allows smooth gear changes. It has 70,890 miles on the clock.
This MG C Cabriolet has been maintained since its arrival in France by 2 English language specialists, namely “Avantage Automobiles” and “L'Atelier Automobile”. Numerous invoices are available as well as an expertise file dating from 2013 after the restoration. The last interview is carried out in January 2022. The consumables are in good condition. The only cost to be expected after the purchase is to carry out a revision.
The MG C Cabriolet, launched in 1967, is an important part of the automotive history of MG (Morris Garages), a British brand renowned for its sports cars. This car was designed in a context where MG sought to offer a more efficient and modern model to succeed the very popular MG B.
Under the hood, the MG C was equipped with a 2,912 cm³ inline six-cylinder engine, a significantly larger and more powerful engine than that of the MG B. This engine produced 145 hp (108 kW) of power at 5250 rpm and a torque of 217 Nm at 3,500 rpm. Thanks to this engine, the MG C could reach a maximum speed of around 193 km/h (120 mph) and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10 seconds, respectable figures for the time. To accompany the new engine, the MG C underwent chassis and suspension changes. The front suspension was equipped with coil springs and an anti-roll bar, a configuration that differed from that of the MG B. However, this modification was criticized for handling and driving comfort, with a heavier front end and less agile handling than its predecessor.
Aesthetically, the MG C shared many elements with the MG B, including the body. However, it was distinguished by a domed hood, which was necessary to accommodate the larger engine. This feature became a distinctive feature of the MG C. Inside, the finish and equipment were similar to those of the MG B, offering a standard level of comfort for the time. The production of the MG C Cabriolet extended from 1967 to 1969. During this period, approximately 4,544 units of the convertible version were produced, representing a relatively small fraction of the total production of MG vehicles. The limited production and short lifespan of the MG C can be attributed to a variety of factors, including criticisms about its handling and the perception that it did not provide a significant improvement over the MG B.
The MG C Cabriolet represents an interesting chapter in MG's history, illustrating both the brand's ambition to develop more powerful sports cars and the challenges associated with introducing significant changes to an established model range. Although it was produced briefly and received mixed reviews at the time, the MG C is now considered by classic car enthusiasts to be a unique and collectible model.
